OLD ROCKING CHAIR .... made new

I have been meaning to put these pictures of our rocking chair up for a few days now. Many, many years ago while my dad was checking gas meters in a back alley in downtown Vancouver he found this old rocking chair. It had no seat and the finish was all blackened.

He brought the chair home and was so pleased to tell me of his find. When I looked at it - I thought that is very ugly... and said I really wasn't interested. Until about a week or so later when I went to a friend of a friends house and took one look at a rocking chair in the corner and freaked... It was exactly like the one I had said I didn't like but this one was refinished and was awesome.

So I quickly made a phone call and said "DON'T THROW OUT THE CHAIR" - hahaha... I brought it home and scrubbed it with warm soap and water and underneath all that black surface finish was a beautiful oak rocking chair. Recently, I took it to a place in town to have a seat put on it and here are the results.

While the chair was in the shop a man came in and was admiring our chair. He said that it was very, very old and that it was white oak which makes it even more valuable. I was pretty pleased to hear all that stuff.

It is imitation ostrich leather.. but it looks and feels real..
