The people in Courtenay/Comox say they live in a 10 minute town. You can get almost anywhere you need to go in 10 minutes. I just love that.
I was heading out the freeway to Abbotsford tonite to visit with Katie and I thought to myself .. When did the traffic going out to the valley after work become one steady wall of cars. I remember the drive east from Langley used to be so easy and relaxed - now it's like rush hour used to be going into Vancouver. Man, how that sneaks up on you and all of a sudden you think ... when did that happen.
It was kind of wierd today - At times I still refer to Langley as home but being here and not having my own home to go to is a strange feeling. Since moving into the Cottage and having our furniture and dishes etc. around us I have started to feel like home is in the Comox Valley but because there is little to no history or memories there yet... it's like I'm a displaced person or something. Strange feeling.. not bad necessarily just interesting.
I wondered for months what it would feel like to move. I have lived here in the lower mainland most of my life and especially never lived away from my family. I really didn't know what to expect and I still wonder if maybe it hasn't hit home yet or something. I guess that is yet to be determined - but Tim is so happy at his new job and I do love the pace of life on the Island. It has been so great having the whole weekend with no work or calls for Tim. He till finds himself on Sundays wondering why the phone hasn't rung yet. He never had a Sunday that was just for him before - he always had to make sure from the afternoon on that he was close to his phone. Dispatch Kevin would call and then the guys would start calling. His weekends are completely his now.
It will be so nice to go back to the Island and know that the Cottage is all settled and the hard work of moving is done for at least 6 months and then of course we move again.
